Philip Larese-Casanova is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. Prior to joining Northeastern University, he was a postdoctoral scholoar at Eberhard-Karls University Tuebingen and later Yale University. He received his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Iowa in 2006.
Our work lies within the broad areas of environmental chemistry, environmental mineralogy, and contaminant transformation processes, namely redox, sorption, and dissolution of metallic and organic contaminants. Our current project is addressing industrial wastewater problems using electrochemistry solutions. Past projects invovled studying the biogeochemical cycling of selenium, the fate of metallic particles in aquatic environments, and ways to improve drinking water treatment using synthesized carbonaceous materials.
