JAM 1983 Abstract
An Elastic Beam Contained in
a Frictionless Channel
D.P. Vaillette and G.G. Adams
Summary
An infinitely long elastic beam, contained within a frictionless and rigid channel,
is subjected to axially compressive forces. It is shown that the elastic theory predicts
a maximum permissible axial force that can be supported. This critical force is expressed
by a very simple relationship involving the flexural rigidity of the beam and the channel
width.
