The CDM Bill & Diane Howard Scholarship

CDM and Ms/Mr Howard has sponsored the CDM/Bill & Diane Howard ITRI scholarship to support a full-time graduate student for conducting leading edge research on emerging water quality issues. CDM has a long-time established relationship with NU and we have a CDM-endowment chair professor position at our department (Prof. Vladimir Novotny). Mr. Howard serves as CDM’s Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer. Mr. Howard, who is alum of NU, has always been an enthusiastic and loyal supporter and sponsor for our Civil and Environmental Engineering department.Mr. Howard in 2006 won the most accomplished alumni award, for his great accomplishment in the environmental profession.

Our environmental program is at its new stage of transitioning into a more comprehensive interdisciplinary program; in order to help our Environmental Program taking off and foster its growth, Mr.and Ms Howard has donated their personal funds together with the CDM funds to form this scholarship.

The CDM Bill & Diane Howard Scholarship has been awarded to Ce Gao, who join our group in August 2008.

• Since he started in September Gao Ce has been working on several projects including:
  1. Study of the aggregation process using AFM;
  2. Analysis in gene expression profiling;
  3. Microbial Fuel cells for Energy generation from wastewaters.
• Gao Ce was co-author of the poster "Mechanical Characterization of Bacteria in Sludge Process Using Atomic Force Microscopy" presented at the NU Research and Scholarship Expo, in March 2009.
