What Industrial Engineers Do in Healthcare (top)

Overview

Industrial Engineers work in a variety of jobs in hospitals and HMO's.  Typical projects might involve process analysis, time and cost studies, facility design, simultion, process and quality improvement, financial and organizational planning, and information system design.  IE's in healthcare often are called "Management Engineers" (ME's) or have other job titles, but many of the tasks and skills are much the same as for IE's in any other industry.

As in most other industries, the possible career paths and day-to-day job responsibilities are quite varied and nearly limitless.  The below slides summarize many typical and less typical projects on which IE's might find themselves working within healthcare:

Speakers for Student Chapters!  (info)

Have a SHS member to speak to your local IIE student chapter. SHS has members located in nearly all 50 states and close to most universities and colleges who would like to speak to local student chapters about what they do for work. For more information, contact Professor Benneyan at benneyan@coe.neu.edu or 617-373-2975.
