Welcome to the exciting world of Systems BioEcology!!
Systems BioEcology is a new approach that combines systems biology and systems ecology. Intracellular states and mechanisms (gene expression, protein function) of microbes are explicitly resolved and the microbe behavior emerges (systems biology). Individual microbes are simulated using agent-based methods and the population and ecosystem behaviors emerge (systems ecology). Please see my Research section for descriptions of current projects.

Welcome!
Hi! Welcome to my home page! I am an Assistant Professor in the
Civil and Environmental Engineering Department
and Associate Director of the
Center for Urban Environmental Studies
at
Northeastern University.
My general research interests are in environmental modeling. Lately, I am most excited about using systems simulation for microbes and I am pioneering a new field, that I call Systems BioEcology (see Research section). Locally, I am especially interested in the Charles River and want to contribute to making it swimmable again. My goal is to build a forecast system that can be used to predict when & where it is safe to swim. When I am not working I like to race sailboats in Marblehead, downhill ski in Killington, go running around the Charles and hike mountains. Check out the links on the left for more info. Happy surfin'.
