Dear Mechanical Engineering Students:

Following the successful completion of Summers 2008 and 2010 Egypt Dialogue programs, I am pleased to inform you that we are planning to have the third Egypt Dialogue during the first Summer Session of 2012. Given the nature of our curriculum, this is most likely your only chance to study abroad while at Northeastern University.

During the summer 2012 Dialogue in Cairo, Egypt, you will be taking the International Application of Fluid Mechanics, MIMU480” course and an Arabic culture/language course to be accepted as your elective course. The culture/language course includes an extensive cultural visit schedule to sights in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan along with an introduction to the Arabic language.

A QPA of 3 or higher is a requirement for eligibility.

The Cost:

The tuition you pay to Northeastern University will cover nearly all your costs on this program: it will pay for your roundtrip airfare (Boston-Cairo), hotel room, transportation to historic sites, and the tuition costs for the two courses you take. If you have financial aid, it can be applied to the costs of this program just as if you were taking courses on campus. You must check with your financial aid advisor to guarantee that any aid you have can be applied to the summer 2012 program.

In addition to the basic tuition (for 8 credits), you will pay for your own food and tickets to the sites, as well as some transportation costs (taxis, primarily; and taxis are very inexpensive in Cairo). The food and site tickets should not amount to anything over $500.00

If you are eligible and interested, please email me during the first month of the Fall 2011 Semester. AT THAT TIME, YOU MUST ALSO SUBMIT ALL OF THE FORMS AT THE STUDY ABROAD WEBSITE; VISIT: http://www.neu.edu/oisp/step1/programs/short_term_facultyled/ Fill out all 3 and submit to Study Abroad: Enrollment Form, Waiver Form, and Dialogue Application Form

Once I see all applications - which are usually due mid November (2011) - I will then set an interview time for the final selection of the participants.

Sincerely,

Mo Taslim, Professor MIE Department 617-373-5514
