The focus of Dr.Kal Bugrara's research is the development of advanced methods and tools for producing improved enterprise-scale software systems. What makes such a mission challenging is that enterprise class systems tend to be closely linked to the strategic direction of the business, people centric, managerial in nature, and span so many organizational units and functional boundaries of the enterprise.
To make it more challenging, management is interested in how their information infrastructure will support the decision-making processes of the business at the operational and strategic levels. Critical are the issues of
- How to improve the flow of information between all levels of management,
- How to remove the cross-organizational barriers to the movement of information,
- How to overcome business and technology fragmentation, and
- How to strategically manage work and people across all organizations units and functional boundaries to ensure that information is actionable.
In highly functionalized enterprises this is difficult to do because of the business and technology fragmentation problems making it extremely difficult to generate meaningful and actionable knowledge and putting it in the hands of those who need it most.
